Skyguide safety practices recognised as Best Practices<br><br> Every year, CANSO (the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation) and Eurocontrol conduct a survey to determine the maturity level of the Safety Management Systems (SMS) in place within European and some other Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs). The aim is to enhance safety by sharing know-how on best practices in place within the industry.
In 2017, 48 ANSPs (within and outside of Europe) participated in the survey. In order to have one of their safety practices recognised as Best Practice, the ANSPs had to submit their requests to CANSO and Eurocontrol, which had each of them reviewed by an international expert panel. In total, 46 requests were submitted this year, and 16 of them were eventually selected as recognised Best Practices.
Three of skyguide’s safety practices were recognised as Best Practices:
- The safety risk management (with the new Unit Safety Survey approach implemented in January this year and already applied in St. Gallen and Payerne)
- The positive effect on the safety culture of applying HRO principles across the whole company
- The principles of HRO applied within skyguide are delivering real benefits to safety in terms of improving the SMS
In addition to this, skyguide and all its FABEC partners received a fourth recognition of Best Practice for their participation in the International Audit Cooperating Team (IntACT).
With four best practices recognised in 2017, we are proud to announce that skyguide is among the leading ANSPs in terms of the maturity of its Safety Management Systems.
