World Economic Forum 2019 starts on January 22: A yearly challenge for air traffic management

A variety of major events put the focus of international interest on Switzerland. The World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos is one of them. For over 15 years, we have been responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of air traffic during this event, which gives rise to around one thousand additional flights.
The unit, which is responsible for all military operations, is working in close cooperation H24 with the Swiss Air Force at the different military air bases and in the Air Defense and Direction Centre (ADDC).
Each year, a temporary control tower is built in the immediate vicinity of Davos, where a small team of air traffic controllers works around the clock for the duration of the WEF. Because of the great importance of the forum, which is attended by prominent people from all over the world, working as an air traffic controller in Davos is always a special experience. Our mission during the WEF is also made possible by our efficient partnership with the Swiss Air Force.
The helipad and the temporary control tower are inside a security zone, which is monitored by the police force of the canton of Graubünden and is not accessible to external visitors. With more than one thousand additional flights over Switzerland, special events such as the World Economic Forum in Davos represent a major challenge for air navigation services.
