In its corporate vision, skyguide aims to embody continuous improvement in a spirit of innovation and enterprise. We want to be a targeted innovator in the European air network. The Virtual Centre programme is one of the solutions to create positive changes in efficiency, productivity, quality and competitiveness.
Virtual Centre Switzerland: the second phase of skyguide’s main strategic initiative addresses fundamental changes with innovative solutions. Innovation in the first phase of the project “Virtual Centre” has been limited to improvements based largely on existing components, technologies, processes and organization. With the second phase, we have decided to address more fundamental changes.
In the second phase of the project, we are proceeding differently and in a more innovative way to contribute to our vision and strategy with the primary aim of bringing added value to airspace users and the aviation industry as a whole. The first element consists in breaking the constraint of geographical dependence between the airspace, the operational unit providing the service and the technical service. The ultimate objective is to be able to operate any airspace from any possible working position. Moreover, the concept of new route management (NRH) will bring a modern solution to the requirements of free en-route airspace (FRA) and will improve not only situational awareness for air traffic controllers but also safety, with conflict detection based on the actual trajectory rather than the one interpreted by the system.
Another major milestone is related to the service orientation, where we have decided to adopt an architecture-oriented implementation using proven technologies. Furthermore, having one single data center will allow us to concentrate our technical resources on a single site (Dübendorf) in order to be more efficient and prepared for future demands. Last but not least, we are leading our innovation efforts in an agile way.
We have had to develop ingenious processes, structures and new ceremonies to govern our work effectively and efficiently.
