For special flights, such as parachute jumps or airshows, certain procedures must be followed.
Skyguide is playing a vital role in ensuring the safe operations of special flights. We are responsible for providing clearances for special flight operations in the airspace in which Air Traffic Control (ATC) approval is required, including airspace around airports and regional aerodromes. Special flights within airspace classes C and D can pose a danger for other airspace users and lead to an additional coordination workload for the air navigation services. They are therefore subject to approval from Skyguide and/or the airport authority.
The procedures for coordinating special flights have been formalised by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and are promulgated in detail in the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) (ENR 1.4, §2) and the Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Manual (VFR RAC 4-3, §12).
